Reinhold Messner unexpectedly visits Alex Txikon at Everest Base Camp
The winter expedition of Alex Txikon has received today the surprise visit of one of the greatest heroes of the mountaineering world. The Italian Reinhold Messner met with the Basque mountaineer at Everest Base Camp at first hour of the morning in a gesture of support for his attempt to crown this summit, in winter and without artificial oxygen, something that until now no one has achieved.
The mythical Italian climber Reinhold Messner (South Tyrol, 1944) has traveled this morning in a helicopter from the Nepali capital, Kathmandu, to the Khumbu region to visit the Sherpa Museum and the hospital founded by Edmund Hillary (first person to climb Everest).
At the same time, Messner has also taken advantage of approaching the Everest Base Camp, located at a height of 5,250 meters, in order to meet Vizcaya’s mountaineer Alex Txikon (Lemoa, 1981).
Messner, who arrived in Nepal last Saturday, is looking for locations in the Khumbu for his next film, the second to be directed and that will take him back to the Everest region in May.
With this unexpected visit, Messner, myth of the world's mountaineering and for many the 'God of the mountains', wanted to show their support to the deed that since last December 25, Txikon, as well as to know first hand the evolution And the difficulties he is encountering in his winter expedition.
The visit has lasted for more than an hour and coincides in time with the last attempt to overcome the very harsh winter conditions (with extreme temperatures and winds at some point hurricane) that Vizcaya`s mountaineer is encountering from the very beginning Of the expedition.
